Hi folks, I hope you can help me. Firsly the background:

I'm trying to move a number of backups from disk to tape.
The tape drive is connected to a different serve to the ne where the disk backup resides.
Both machines are in the same subnet and same domain.
Both machines are running BAS11.1
The source machine is W2K and the destination W2K03.

I issue the following command:

tapecopy -s veldt -d ultrium -t "sunday" -ids 3d11 -rd valley -c "JUN_2006"

With the following result:

************************************************************
*----------Computer Associates Tape Copy Utility,----------*
*Copyright (c) 2004 Computer Associates International, Inc.*
*-------------------All rights reserved.-------------------*
************************************************************

COMMAND LINE: tapecopy -s VELDT -d ULTRIUM -t SUNDAY -ids 3d11 -rd valley -c JU
N_2006
Security validation failed for current user on remote machine [valley]

The user running the command has Domain Admin rights. Does anyone have any idea why it might not be working. I've not used Tapecopy before but I'm sure I have the syntax right, or have I?

Thanks in advance
Ian

Hi,

The security mentioned here is not the Windows Security..

Ensure you have equivalence enabled for the user u are logged in as on the Local server to the CAROOT account on
valley.

FOr further details on adding equivalence, check the BAB help.

So it Shall be Written!
So it Shall be Done!!

Thanks for that.

I'll look into it.

Ian

It would appear that the user 'asbackup' already has caroot equivalence, if I'm interpretting the the information below correctly.

D:\CA\BrightStor ARCserve Backup>ca_auth -equiv getequiv
Equivalent BrightStor user for asbackup@ridge : caroot

As I said earlier this is a domain user and not a local user on the server, does this have any bearing on things?

Thanks
Ian

I'm not sure if this is the correct way of going about this but I have managed to solve the problem.

Inorder for me to get it to work I gave the local administrator on each of the servers caroot equivalence. Then logged into the target server as local administrator and ran tapecopy from there.

As I said, I'm not sure if this the best way of going about it but it works.

Thanks speshalyst for putting me on the right track.

Ian
