Hi,
I have a 100/200GB drive which runs full backups overwriting with compression. Now the tape gets full after 125GB if i look in the report.
Is it so that what actually fits on my tapes is 100GB of compressed data and what shows up in the report is how much uncompressed data that have been read from my server?

Very confusing for my small brain.

Regards
Marten

A few possible reasons for this. The 200 Gb with compression is wishful thinking. It's theoretically possible if all your files are ideal, but 150Gb would be a more realistic expectation and data intensive files like .pst files are unlikely to compress at all.

On the other hand, if your tapes used to store more but seem to be reducing in capacity, your dlt unit may have a problem. Give it a thorough clean, say 3 times with your cleaning tape. Then select the device, click on properties, then the cleaning tab. Reset the cleaning stats, run your backup with a new tape then check the error counts. A lot of errors would indicate a hardware problem.

Smile anyway,
Perry.
