NO
I have a strange problem with one of my drives or slots
NB thinks there is a tape in the slot but there is not. When I delete the tape from NB and run an inventory update it puts the tape back into the slot even if the tape is not in the robot. This is a ghost tape.

IPL the library and force it to do a re-inventory.

Initial Program Load - basically, either reboot your library or force it to do a complete reinventory of the library. This may take some time to do, depending on the size of your library. Once that is complete, update NetBackup's inventory.

I have rebooted the library several times, but I'll check the robot what options there are at the control panel for a complete re-inventory of the library. The robot is a DEll PVT136

A reboot of the library should re-inventory. Just curious, what happens if you try to manually eject this "ghost tape" through Netbackup?

nothing happens, just an error in eject.

does it have valid data on it?
If not you can just delete it and have it "Rediscovered" through the normal import process

Otherwise, you can do the log file shuffle with support or wait for the data to expire and then delete it.

Good luck either way :)

Hmm looks like the first drive has an error. It seems as far as I can see that the mechanism inside the drive is lifted. As is it supposed to be if there was a tape inside.
The mechanism in the other drive is lower. Could this be the problem?

Not if NBU is reporting the tape drive empty from device montior. if nbu says your tape is in a slot and the drive is reporting empty... your problem lies elsewhere

What OS is the server that the library is attached to?

With Windows, we've found that we have to shutdown the server before power cycling the library in order for the library to do the Initial Program Load sequence properly.

I think the ghost tape problem is solved. Took out all tapes from robot. Did an re-inventory and the ghost tape still showed up, but after I put all tapes back into robot the ghost tape disappeared. Still have a probelem with the drive but tec is coming to replace it.- So I'll cross my fingers

A star to you for following up with the resolution :)
