Tape Merging Fails

Does anybody know of any reason why when i try to merge a tape back into the database, it wait's for 2 hours before failing??

On the Backup Server... open the registry..
Stop all services
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ ComputerAssociates \ ARCserveIT \ Base \ Task \

Key Name: DonotUseCatalogMerge
Data Type: REG_DWORD
Data: 0x1

Restart Services
Run the Merge again..

Stop what services? all the Arcserve engines?

When i go to restore by session, will i still get the list of whats on the tape?

use the cstop batchfile to stop all services (if you have ARCserve v9 or higher). This batchfile is in the ARCserve home directory.
