Hi,

We need to configure a new Sun E450 Server to connect to a Quantum P1000 Tape Library. We have a Dual Differential Ultra/Wide SCSI (HVD)(Part # 375-0006) connectd to the E450 and probe-scsi can detect the scsi card. It is connected to Tape library with a 20m cable. Quantum has verified the tape drive is functioning properly. probe-scsi can't detect the P1000 robot and the tape drive.

We tried replacing the cable with different length and scsi card. It doesn't help.

Any advice.

Thanks

sibisuresh;

Did you do probe-scsi-all?

This will probe all scsi (onboard + cards).

Also have you tried booting with -r to see if the tape unit is recognized?

Thanks

Yes i did. But the Tape drive unit is not getting recognized.

Thanks

Last thing for hardware;

I took a quick look at P1000 specs and it says it is a HVD unit so the card you are using should be fine. Since you tried another cable you can rule that out. Does the unit auto-terminate or do you have a HVD terminator. Make sure it is HVD term.

Depending on your OS you are also probably going to need to edit st.conf for your library and tape units if you have not already done so.

After you booted with reconfiguration did you happen to look in /dev/rmt to see if anything got created.

You could also boot cdrom -s and see if the tape drive is seen.

Thanks

We have terminated correctly using HVD terminator. Quantum Engineer has verified the library and he confirmed that everything is perfect from the library end. And we have added the entries in the st.conf file and rebooted the server. We dont see any files created under /dev/rmt.

Thanks

Not sure what to say, the unit should atleast be seen using probe-scsi-all.

I did a little more looking into these units and did find they can by HVD/LVD/SE.

Usually when these type devices do not show up with probe-scsi-all people are trying to use scsi card with diff tape unit. The only thing you can really do is double check the scsi symbols, make sure they are HVD not LVD.

Also not sure if it would make a difference or not but does the LED panel on the P1000 say online when trying to do the probe-scsi-all.

Thanks
