I really need some help with this one.

Have got a brand new compaq ML350 and have installed Win2000 SP2 and ArcServe 2000 WE with a SP 4 . The tape drive we are using is an internal AIT 35/70 LVD Tape Drive, really weird but this tae drive plugs into the Disk Controller bay, not seen that before.

Anyway, Arcserve installs fine and in the device manager, finds the drive as a Compa SDX-400c. Now here are the problems:

1. I have enabled the device for RSM which I was unable to do without explicitly installing the drivers from the ArcServe Tape software CD. From a lot of other threads, it seems that ArcServe just usually finds it.

2. The Tape Device, while visible during the BIOS load, is viewable as a happy device within Windows 2000 and even ArcServe can spot it in the device manager, when I create a new backup group, there are no available devices listed to associate with it. Therefore I can start no backup whatsoever.

3. Device Configuration wizard is unhelpful in every way except enabling the RSM and even that can only be done with the prop. drivers installed

4. I have rebooted, re-installed, tried ArcServe AE with just as little joy. I have even tried a new tape drive (I am actually building two servers at the moment and the 2nd one has the smae tape drive, agghhh!!!!).

If anyone can help I would graeyly appreciate it.

We just had a similar issue and we noticed that the drives were on a higher firm ware that was supported by Arcserve. We had to done grade the firmware and all is well now. Also check to ensure that the windows drivers are either disabled or completly uninstalled....good luck!

Cheers. Thanks for the tip. Had upgraded the firmware already but had not removed all thos pesky windows drivers. It's working now.

Mant Thx.
