Tape Drive Hangs

OK Seen as I'm on a role this evening maybe you guys can help with another problem I'm experiencing.

Running 6.1.2 just upgraded from 6.0.2.

I have an IBM LTO with 5 drives. We're backing up around 160 clients.

The problem I have is that I have a tape drive that constantly hangs. And it;s not the same tape drive but it alternates. It doesn;t cause the other drives to hang either but it can;t unmount that volume and then I need to wait for all our backups to stop running before I can reset the environment.

Any ideas would be great ...

If you haven't done a new "jbconfig" do that a.s.ap., I think this will solve your problem.

Hi,

I've done the jbconfig but it seems to have just moved that from one drive to another...

I also thought that would solve my problems but doesn;t seem to have. I have the latest drivers for my network cards as well.

You must delete the old config before you create a new with jbconfig.

We have similar problems with Seagate LTO drives. One workaround is, to poweroff the unresposive drive, and after a poweron it will rewind and eject the tape. Then you can unload the tape, and you backups run with full speed again.
In our case, i think it's a problem of the drive or of legato. the drive becomes totally unresponsive, and dosn't answer to any scsi command. Eithe legato sends a "evil" scsi command or the firmware of the drive is buggy.

We have simalar problems with an Adic 218 Tape drive. The unit must be turned off and on before the tape can be manually unloaded.
