Tape Devices - Legato Networker 1

I am using a Dell PowerVault 136T library with 4 LTO-2 drives. I have the latest firmware for Lib and Drives, and all are set up with the same configuration in the Networker Software.
I can run a job okay using \\.\Tape0, but 1,2 and 3 just fail, and eject. The job loads a tape, then I get the fail maeesage, it then gives Error 25 when trying to unload the tape.

NetWorker does to create error messages - so they must be executes from either Windows or the device (Sense Codes or Sense Keys). Can you be a bit more specific?

I see the Error 25, under Networker, Monitor tab.

I have tried this again, and got the following message.

: (warning) \\.\Tape3 reading: read open error: drive status is There is not a tape in the drive

OK - the last message is what i expected.

Obviously there is a mismatch of how the system sees the drive sequence and how you have configured. This happens if you do not follow the sequence in the device list. The result is that the jukebox will load drive x but when you read/write, the program talks to drive y.

Do the following:
- delete the jukebox configuration
- run "inquire" and verify how the tape devices are reported
- then reconfigure the jukebox with "jbconfig" and use the exact seuence of the drives - do NOT re-arrange it.
This should solve the problem.

Thanks, just tried - same problem though.

I went into nwadmin, deleted the jukebox, deleted the drives.
Ran inquire, which found the autochanger \\.\Changer0
followed by \\.\Tape0, 1, 2, 3. When I did a jbconfig, i put them in this order.

Does deleting them using nwadmin completley clear them?

Yes, nwadmin will clear the the appropriate resources from the configuration files.

Another issue is also important - it is well known for NW and it is even impossible for the latetst version - but you did not state the NW version so far: Did you disable the Removable Storage Manager service? - If not, the behavior is unpredictable. You must stop and disable RSM.

The version of NW is 7.2.1, on Windows Server 2003 standard edition, SP1.
Removable Storage Service is disabled

Hmmm, this looks very strange. I still assume a configuration problem. The best thing would be a visual instpection:
- Label a media in each device using jbconfig, slow mode
- Visually inspect which tape drive is loaded and which NW accesses through the labeling process (watch the LED)
- Then change the SCSI cables appropriately so that the configuration matches

I know that this sounds a bit weird but if you followed the procedure correctly, i do not see any other way how to check the configuration.

After comparing the serial no of the drives in the library and the order they were in, then changing the lun mappings in the emulex config, and checking using the inquire command, it now all works !!
