Hello all,

Compaq MSL5026 Tape Library
VERITAS NetBackup 4.5 Datacenter
110/220 SDLT Tapes

what's everyone's view on enabling tape compression in terms of Disaster Recovery - Does it make life any harder when doing a restore? does it take longer to do a restore?

Thanks

Tape compression actually makes life a litte easier. It will not hurt any performance on a restore especially since you are using a newer technology tape drive (SDLT).

Why on earth wouldn't you use the compression built into the SDLT? Restores should actually be faster than non-compressed tapes.

Compression from the client is another matter - it won't change restore times because it is not done on restores.
