Tape Alert - Warning Hard Error (Help me please!)

Using Win 98 machine.
HP SureStore Dat 24.
TapeWare 6.3.

Whenever i try to backup the machine it gives the error:-
"Tape Alert - Warning Hard Error"

Although, if the machine is restarted it will backup fine (i.e. first backup is fine but second (3rd, 4th etc...) will fail)

Any Thoughts?

Sounds to me like you have a hardware issue with your drive.Given the fact that you can do a few backups befopre you see this error, perhaps it may need a cleaning at the very least, or some other hardware issue inside the drive.If you have anyway to read the drive log, this may shed some light on the subject.Go to HP.Com and download the latest Tape test tool.Look for LTT 3.0, or maybe 3.1....jon
