Can anyone tell me, is there a way for a TACACS user to change their password without going through TACACS administration?

It depends on what you are using TACACS to secure. It could be as simple as the global command PASSWORD [new password], which would change a password for for priv mode. This is obviously does not have to be done at the server, however I believe all other instances would require going through admin. Regards,

Don,

Am using TACACS for authentication to all our Cisco routers and switches on our network. Once authenticated to the router or switch all commands entered apply to that device don't they? or is there a command to change my TACACS password?

Thanks for your help so far...

Ali

Sorry for the delay, my collegues and I were looking this one up. This is what we found: "With TACACS enabled, the router or access server prompts for a username and password, then verifies the password with a TACACS server. User accounts and passwords are administered at the TACACS server."
It doesn't say this is exclusively the only way, however I haven't read or heard anything otherwise. My guess is it's either an undocumented command or very well has to be configured at the server level. Sorry I could get the answer you wanted to hear :)
Regards,

Don

We are running TACACS+ on a NT server, managing all our Switches and Routers. If I enter my userid and hit enter for the password, it then prompts for old password and the a new one. Not sure if this is correct setup but works for me.
