hi,

i have a tablet PC that I bought 2nd hand. Does anyone know if I can buy Windows XP tablet edition on its own. I've read that it comes as part of XP pro, is this the case. Sorry if this question is a bit off the mark.

I haven't heard of any place that sells Tablet PC Edition on its own. I would highly doubt it anyways since the Tablet PC market is so small, MS wouldn't invest money in selling stand-alone copies.

Your best bet would be to contact the manufacturer of your Tablet PC and state that you have purchased it 2nd HAnd and can they send you a reload CD. They will likely charge you £60-£100 (in uk this is what I have know companies charge for XP reload CD's). This will allow you to restore the Tablet to its factory state but not use the CD on any other machine.

thanks.

And is it true that Tablet Edition is included with XP PRO, or it it just based on that technology?

Tablet Edition is not included with XP Professional.
Similar to XP Multimedia Edition, Tablet PC requires a great deal of driver customization by the OEM manufacturer and is therefore not a retail product.
