I have one table. now I'd like to put a second table on the right side of the first one...but it just drops under, not on the right of it?!

Is it possible?

Create a 1 row/2column table and nest your 2 tables in the side by side cells.
 
Yes that works, but the second table is controlled by the first. If I do a line break in that one this also happens in the second one. I want em to be independent...?..HELP!

How about creating side by side layers and placing your tables inside these layers?
