Table trouble in WORD

I am working with a WORD document that was already made, just trying to clean it up. There is a table, and it goes on 7 pages. The person that created it, created a table for each page. Since the information has changed, the tables need to be joined together and allowed to break across pages. The problem is the space between the pages. It had text in it (the title of the table) and it would not let me delete it when I highlighted the entire thing, it wouldn't let me cut it either. So I backspaced it out, but it won't let me backspace the space out (with formatting, the paragraph symbol). Help? I cleared the formatting in that area to fix it, didn't work.

Have you tried the delete key instead of the backspace key?

Yep, sure have. I'm completely at a loss. It's like it is locked or something, but I know it's not.

Hi,
Go to the Table menu and select Heading Rows repeat. This will turn off the feature and allow you to see just the table rows and columns.

Also, go to the first cell of the next table and then Format, Paragraph and check to see if Page Break Before is checked

No, Page Break Before is not checked.

Select a table, apply normal style to it. Select the next one, apply normal style. Try to join the two together.

Nope, there's still that return (paragraph) mark between the two rows (the last row of the first table, and first row of the second table) that I can't get rid of.

That's a problem, it is a "classified" document, I will take all the stuff out of it though, and leave the tables. Thanks!

Have you tried cutting the entire table and starting over? It would be a rather crude workaround... and if the text is still there once you cut it you know its not part of the table... (I must ask because I haven't seen it listed explictly... is it a page header specific to that section?)

If text wrapping is set to Around (Table > Properties > Table tab) you won't be able to delete a paragraph mark between them.

No, not a page header, and that's what I'm doing now is cutting the rows below it and adding them to the table above it.

Hi, shanona1.

Your file has a few problems associated with it.

First, if you highlight the paragraph mark between the tables, the style says it's a Table Title. You need to change that to Normal.

Next, the tables that follow, the first row in each table is a header row. The row needs to be highlighted and changed to normal.

Some tables have autoformat applied to them. Select each table and under Table menu, Autoformat, choose tTable Normal.

Also, your table has Track changes turned on and there millions (OK, I am exaggerating) of track changes; mostly deletions. You might want to accept those changes.

The tables have different column widths also and they will need adjusting.

After doing all this I was able to join the tables without any problems. I didn't see any point in sending it to you since it has no data.
