Good day to all oracle gurus!

I have a table which i assigned to a tablespace and its indexes was also assigned to a separate tablespace. For 2 months now, i noticed that the table's tablespace is not growing but the index tablespaces of that table is the only one growing. Is this normal? or Is there something wrong with my table? I'm quite confuse because it's very impossible that the table's tablespace is not growing where in we have almost 50 thousand records insert everyday. Any explaination please regarding this matter. I'm using oracle 8.05 in WINW2K.

Thanks,

Rommel

Rommel,

What evidence do you have that the tablespace is not growing? If the tablespace started out with 4GB of (empty) space, and you add 50,000 rows that average 50 bytes each, then it will be nearly 4.5 years before you use up that space and the tablespace "grows" (if it is in AUTOEXTEND mode).

So, tell us more about the symptoms/evidence you are seeing.

Mufasa,

What i mean of tablespace is not growing is its percentage of space usage. I initially set the tablespace to 2GB and for 2 months now the space being utilized by the table assigned to that tablespace is still 320Mb.

The currently the total number of rows is 2.1 million. Any clarification on this matter pls.

Thanks,

Rommel

And how many were there a month ago?
What are your pctfree and pctused values?
Is the data being handled like you expected (i.e., is it possible that you underestimated the number of deletions or overestimated the number of insertions)?

And as KenCunningham asked - how long are the rows - not "how long could the rows be if all fields are at maximum length", but "on average, how much space are they really consuming".

And are you certain that your table is using the tablespace you think it is?
