Hello. I just downloaded the trial version of InDesign CS3 and I am intrigued by this new feature. When I click inside the formatted or the unformatted table boxes to set my cursor,(as the tutorial says to do), my table style pallet is grayed out, making it impossible to assign a table style to a new block of copy. Very new to this version... what am I doing wrong? Thank you for any information you can provide.

You have to highlight a cell, press esc inside any cell to apply a cell style.

To assign a table style select all the table and choose new table style.

Thanks Eugene. So, I guess it only applies to copy imported from Excell? What about copy native to InDesign?

...tables are created inside text boxes, either from imported text, text input into indesign or no text at all...

Exactly. I was working with text generated in InDesign, not imported. And when I did this, I couldn't access the table styles pallet if I had the cursor blinking inside the chart. It was grayed out. Each line of copy, be it header, subhead or body copy had its own paragraph style and was saved in cell styles, and then selected in the appropriate table style. And it wouldn't format let me access the table style when the cursor was inside the text box. I'm sorry if I'm vague, but that's the only way I can word the problem.

When the cursor is blinking inside the cell you won't be able to access the cell styles to apply one. You have to press ESC to highlight the cell. Then the cell styles should become active. When the cursor is blinking it gives the opportunity to use a paragraph or character style, when you highlight text. You need to select the cell, or select the table in order to apply or access the table panels.
