I created a table off the edge of the page, on the artboard, but upon dragging it onto my page, it resizes itself. After checking all the details are correct (size-wise), it looks like the table cels create a bigger inner margin, so the only way I can get text to appear back into the box is by down-scaling the fonts to 4pt.

Sound familiar?

Thanks.

Do you already have a box on the page? If so, you might have it set to "fit content to box"

Try doing this: Put a box (frame) on teh page sized to the correct size. Then copy the table you made on the artboard. Then selct teh blank page on the page nad select Place Into on the edit menu. The table should stay the same.

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4

Was the forum down yesterday? Couldn't get it.

Thanks jmgalvin,

Its a text box which houses the table. I've tried what you suggested, but to no avail. I've noticed when I move the table around the artboard the text disappears from view as if the margins within the text box are greater in different places on the artboard/pasteboard.

Also, text wrap is turned off.

THanks.

Is it possible you have a hidden item or item on a hidden layer that DOES have text wrap turned on? Just kind of a strange thing to have happen...I'm grasping at straws here!

Thnaks for your help, but we still haven't hit the nail on the head.

If you'd be so kind as to look at this link:
All I have done here is dragged the original from the right, onto the page on the left. You can also see the layers, > there are no other objects on the artboard. No alignments.. I'm stumped.

Thanks all.

Thanks for the screenshots...that is really weird. I don't believe it's the margins in the text frame itself that's changing...all that would do would be to cut off more of the rows. What's happening is that, for some unknown reason, your cells are actually changing size. Whenever strange things like this don't make sense, I repair permissions. For instance, my Tabs palette is often blank unless I repair permissions. It looks like you're on a Mac, yes? If so, quit InDesign, repair permissions and see if you have any better luck.

One thing to check is the Cell Options settings (on the table as it sits on the pasteboard where you have it looking like you want). Check your Keep Options and set them to Start Row: Anywhere and check Keep with Next Row. That might help. A workaround would be to select each row and set the height to be "Exactly" whatever its measurement is (that should prevent the resizing of the cell)...and/or set a maximum. Time consuming, but it might be the workaround.

If all else fails, you might have a corrupt file...does this happen in any other file? Can you copy and paste into another document and still get this problem?

Okay...that's a lot to work on...maybe something will help.

Thanks Ekwoman for your suggestions. I think I've gone throught them all but with no luck. I placed the table onto a new document, but it still did the same thing.

Unfortunately I'm on a PC now. I'm stuck with a PC, but lust for my mac again. I'm farmiliar with 'permissions' but not so on the PC.

Something interesting, when I tried moving the text fields below the table (infact with even the table too), the text didn't move, just the bounding box. It was as if the text would only sit on a grid of 5px. The text would 'jump' instead of following the course of the bounding box.

I've spent a few days looking at this, so I'm avoiding spending another day trying out different possiblities. Which is ashame. One day I'll be my own boss ;)

Thank you everyone for trying, maybe this will happen to someone else, who might rectify the issue :)

Thanks all.
