I have Paradox 9 Developer's Edition running, but when I try to create a table lookup, I get the message "File Name too long for a Paradox version 5.0 table."

As far as I can see the tables I am creating are version 7,8 & 9, and not version 5 tables. Obviously, by re-naming the tables and shortening their names to less than eight characters I do not have a problem, but I do not want to be resticted to short table names. I have tried the Table Repair Utility, but that doesn't appear to do anything.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Try changing the table to a higher version. There's a simple way to do it but I don't remember it. I usually add an advanced field type (like logical) to the end of the table and save it, which raises the table version to 7/8/9, and then go back in and delete the field.

When you rebuild the table you can change the table version to whatever you want. Back up the table first, I have had occasions where data is lost in a table rebuild.

Added additional field of logical type to all of the Tables involved in the Lookup, saved them and tried to re-establish a LookUp between them. Still no good, I get the same message as before. But Paradox is still telling me when I check that the Tables are version 7,8,9 tables.

I've tried the Table Repair Utility, but that's telling me that there is no problem.

Any further suggestions would be appreciated.

Sounds crazy but have you tried making a new table in ver 789 by borrowing the previous table's structure. That should at least start you with a nice new table that you can import your data to etc.

Alternatively check how long the path is to the tables. If it is quite long you may wish to try using a shorter path or an alias.

Good Luck

You need to change the table level in the table using the lookup tables, not just the lookup tables themselves.

Also, where are the tables for the lookup stored? The actual path, I mean.

I believe there is a limit to the number of characters the path to a lookup can comprise.

And since after Paradox [7?] the alias isn't used, it is the full path an alias resolves to, not the alias itself.
