I was sent a file that should be some sort of worksheet file that I need to open. It's extension is ".tab". I'm not sure if the file is corrupt or what. The sender says it works in Excel. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance! Ginger

As far as I am aware .tab has no meaning. This means that whatever the extension, if the file is intrinsically an excel file, excel will open it and the content will be fine.

The only reference to a .tab I did find however was that a
.TAB was a Guitar Tablature File. I play the guitar, but have no idea what a guitar tabular file is.

It is also a Table file in MapInfo. joegz

frenchtaquito,

Since anyone can name a file anything they like, if the originator stated that it should be a worksheet file or open in Excel. Did you try File, Open, change the Files of type to All files, then try to select it and open it?

Hope this helps.

Turns out a .tab file is also a filemaker pro extension. I downloaded the filemaker pro trial version to open it and that doesn't work either. I got it to sort of open in Word but it's mostly a jumbled mess with some text so that doesn't help. I've given up.... I have a feeling it's looking for some sort of permission, password or otherwise that I don't have. Oh well. Thanks for all the help, it's much appreciated! Cheers
