A couple weeks ago I installed a T1 Card into an existing Partner ACS R6.0 system, since this install the site has been experiencing several of the problems I've seen documented in this forum. We searched for the 6.0.4 upgrade but thought it may be easier to just install a new processor. My question is, can I load the programming from the 6.0 308 processor right in to the R8 509 processor or will I have to completely reprogram the system from scratch?

Unfortunately you will have to reprogram from scratch. you can only backup the settings and restore to the same release of processer you backed up from.. Hope this helps, Kyle

The ability of an R8 to restore from an R6 or R7 was one of the few selling points. Here is the info from the manual

Restoring a PARTNER R6.0/7.0 Backup File
to a PARTNER R8.0 System 01
Use this procedure to restore a PARTNER R6.0 or R7.0 backup translation file to a PARTNER
R8.0 system. The PARTNER R8.0 system will automatically convert the R6.0 or R7.0 translation
file to an R8.0 translation working copy, enabling you to upgrade an existing PARTNER system
more quickly and easily.
Considerations 01
■ After the restore operation is complete, the original R6.0/R7.0 backup file is still present on the
processor module or PCMCIA card.
■ Since the PARTNER ACS 509 module has one more extension and two more lines than the
PARTNER ACS 308 processor module, the extension cords for each extension will need to be
moved to the preceding extension jack at the system location. For example, if the PARTNER
R6.0 system had extensions beyond extension 17, you would need to move these extension
cords down by one physical extension jack. Similarly, if the PARTNER R6.0 system had lines
beyond line 3, you would need to move these lines down by two line extension jacks.
■ If the PARTNER R6.0 system had a PARTNER Messaging expansion module (which does not
contain physical extension jacks), you will need to increase the extension numbers in the
Voice Mail Hunt Group by one and reprogram them manually.
■ When restoring a PARTNER R6.0 backup translation file to a PARTNER R8.0 system, and the
R6.0 system uses Simultaneous Paging or Loudspeaker Paging, you must manually move the
loudspeaker paging cord to an available line jack and then manually program that line as the
Loudspeaker Paging Line (#617).
■ When restoring a PARTNER R6.0 backup translation file to a PARTNER R8.0 system, and the
R6.0 system has automatic backup enabled, the R8.0 system keeps automatic backup
enabled to the PC Card destination. Therefore, you must physically move the backup card
from the R6.0 system to the R8.0 system processor so that the automatic backups continue to
function.
Procedure 01
To restore a PARTNER R6.0/7.0 backup to a PARTNER R8.0 system:
1. Back up the existing PARTNER R6.0/R7.0 system to a PC Card. See “Backup
Programming—Manual (#124)” on page 4-6.
2. Upgrade the PARTNER system to Release 8.0.
3. Restore the PARTNER R6.07/R7.0 back up from the PC Card to the PARTNER R8.0 system.
See “Restore Programming (#125)” on page 4-7.
4. Back up the PARTNER ACS system. See “Backup Programming—Manual (#124)” on page
4-6.
At this point, you should modify the system programming (if necessary).
Upgrading T1 Module Firmware 01
PARTNER ACS Release 7.0 and later provides a firmware upgrade capability for the T1 module,
which is equipped with programmable flash memory. The firmware to upgrade this module resides
on a PC Card. This PC Card contains the T1 module firmware upgrade software only. It does not
contain the system software.
The steps to perform a firmware upgrade are the same as those to upgrade the system software.
See “Using a PC Card” on page 10-2.
Once a successful firmware upgrade as been completed, all power LEDs are steady green.
■ If the PARTNER R6.0 system uses Simultaneous Paging or Loudspeaker Paging, you
must manually move the loudspeaker paging cord to an available line jack and then
manually program that line as the Loudspeaker Paging Line (#617).
■ If the PARTNER R6.0 system has automatic backup enabled, the R8.0 system keeps
automatic backup enabled to the PC Card destination. Therefore, you must physically
move the backup card from the R6.0 system to the R8.0 system processor so that the
automatic backups continue to function.
