We've got a new customer that has called us after they got tired of their Avaya recommended vendor in Texas. They recently upgraded from 8 to 11, and since then the T1 connection to a Mitel phone system at another building no longer works. I've checked the licensing, and the new licenses are valid. Our contact at our supplier is not being much help with this, and the customer is already getting tired of me not knowing what's going on here. Nothing changed other than the upgrade. I'm going to see if he has a backup of the config prior to the upgrade and compare is to what it has now. Any other ideas here?

Considering 8 channels are In Service it would seem it isn't licensed properly, or that there are only 8 channels configured on the Mitel side.

Does it work if you change Channel Allocation to 1 -> 24 ?

Any errors in SSA ?

Just a guess based on limited info... Since the system was on R8 I wonder if they had a legacy carrier with a IP400 PRI card giving them a full T1/PRI without licenses. They upgraded to R11, added a IP500 PRI card, but didn't add the PRI licenses. You should confirm the amount of channels on the Mitel side.

As always the more information you can provide the better chance you have of getting help. I know you took over so it may be hard to get all the information.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

good catch Critch. @OP what's the card model?

Yeah, this customer is a little ways away, so I haven't been on site yet either. It's hard jumping into something and not knowing all the history.

You may be on to something that I haven't thought of yet. When comparing the old config pre-upgrade, and the current one, I do see that the serial number has changed, so it's possible that carrier changed and that PRI card did.

This unit has two PRIs on it, one to the Mitel, one to the Telco. One is a VCM32/PRIS U, the other is a PHONE2/PRIS U. In the old licensing, there are 2 - IP500 Universal PRI (Additional channels) 8 instances, in the new licensing, there is 1 - IP500 Universal PRI (Additional Channels) 16 instances.

So, if one of both of those PRI cards had the free licensing that you mentioned, I could see why the Mitel T1 doesn't work. I'll check into that.

Well crap, I don't know what to think now. So here's the timeline of what happened. They upgraded from 8 to 11, and did not change any hardware. At that point, the T1 to the Mitel stopped working, and at that point, they began changing hardware to try to fix the issue. So, it may be a licensing issue now, that needs to be solved, but that doesn't explain why it quit working after the upgrade, before the hardware changes. I will get with Avaya and get some licenses, and see what happens.

Well you should verify the number of channels from the Mitel system and the channel allocation 1>24 or 24>1(all settings really). Since this is coming from a Mitel system, and I am assuming the customer has control of the Mitel system, you should be able to confirm the settings on the Mitel system and match them against what you have on the IP Office. I would do that before purchasing licenses you may not need.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

I'm sure the line numbers changed as well, and probably came up with the original line group ID's, so you need to look at the previous config before they hosed it up and rebuild the lines the way they should be
