Hello All,

I am looking to convert a couple of T1s from copper to fiber. We have some strands left over (single and multi) and dont see the point in paying someone to carry the signal when we already have the dark fiber sitting there. Anyone do anything like this? Looking for a recommended manufacturer here (ADC, Paradyne, etc) Thanks for looking.

yes i have done that between sites. it's been a while but i want to say we used a blackbox product at the time.. just be sure your using clear channel 1.54.. the switch does the framing. i doubt you can get anything with ami. b8zs was rare back then but now it's default on almost everything.

are you using the t's for trunks or interface between ipe's? we have both, fiber and carrier remotes dependant on location. using fiber to pri boxes for pri tie lines should not be a problem.. no software change, be sure to have a loop back plug on hand to troubleshoot any cut over problems and i would get a spare box for the shelf.. if you do, don't leave it in the box until it's needed.. one thing that i've learned is any spare part needs to be tested prior to a failure... the feeling of having a KNOWN good part makes any repair a lot less stressfull..

I have used the Black box as well as Adtran, and if I remember they came in single as well as 4 or 8 port config's. Right now where I am at we use a Cisco Lightstream 1010 with T-1 card that we extend 6 Telco Pri's and 7 Tie's.

cisco would be a decent choice, not that they know much about voice but at least someone on site usually knows their software..

be carefull, if it's like our data people they tend to get reboot happy. of course data people can't fix toast without rebooting the toaster..

Thank you John for the information and the most welcome advice on testing and getting a spare... not sure I would have thought of that until it broke.

We are using these as PRIs in between an Option 61 and an 11.
