I have to run a T1 cable from 81C dual PRI card on 4th floor to 1st floor to connect Gateway. I am planning on using cat5e cable with Rj45 each end and a mod D kit RJ45 to DB15 for the back of the 81C. The total length is about 160 to 180 ft. has anybody used cable length of 180ft and worked or do I require Pairgain amplifiers for this?

Should work ok. If your using a T-1 CSU they have settings for cable length from 133 to 633ft.

I agree, should work fine, real issues come in at 400' plus. What I have done is use 2 csu's in that case....

I'm running 10 PRI tie lines between 2 Option 81 systems using dry cable pairs out of a 600 pair feeder. Like phonez1 said, I just have CSUs on each end. Works great.

War Eagle!!

Has anyone tried a T1 over 180 ft distance without using a csu? I am wondering how far the 81C can drive the digital signals before csu's are required?

yes.. we don't use csu's at all.. i've ran one 10 floors and across the building through old cat 4 tie cable with out a problem..

if i see distance problems i move the smart jack closer.. same tie pairs just higher voltage..

i've also tied two switches together with just a tie cable as the pri's.. no csu's at over 1.4 of a mile.. this was for 6 weeks while we did a cut, but it ran clean
