I have a problem where the sysvol share as somehow replicated within itself.
The problem is that within the Sysvol scripts directory is another copy of sysvol with all the same directory structures. It's in an infinite loop and will eventually get error path to long.
The main problem is backups and file searches fail due to this replication.

We have tried to delete this duplicate folder but it cannot as it trys to delete the folder you are in. On further investagation it appears that it has created a reparse point or junction point in the scripts folder to the sysvol folder. How can you remove this juction point ?
I cannot demote the dc as it is the only dc in the forest

The problem is not the name it is the fact that it stops backups and searches of the drives due to long paths.

I don't think renaming it will help as it still has a junction point pointing to the sysvol directory.

How about having a batch file run before your backup starts (most backup applications allow this), and basically do a 'deltree' on the folder...

I don't think I can run a deltree as I am not sure if it will loop back and delete the sysvol as thats what seem to happen when you try to delete folder
