Hello All,

I am having an issue with a Dell Box. The system has been running perfect and this afternoon I go to reboot the system and now when the system begins to boot that it reaches the Preparing Network Connections screen, it just stays there. I mean the machine does not freeze, but it just stays on "Preparing Network connections..." and does not reach the login window. Does anyone have any ideas what it may be. This box has been running great and I have rebooted it before without problems but i don't know whats going on.

THanks for you help in advance,

Try to boot in safe mode (F8 on boot). Look at the event viewer for errors when the system comes up. Also, check DNS to make sure that it is pointing properly.

I also had the similar problem with a Dell PE4600 W2K Server. The problem was a combination of a bad network card driver and the addition of a Dell Managed Switch that wasn't configured correctly.

Although it could be related to DNS issues, I would still check your hardware, possibly try changing the port on the switch that the server is connected to. Or rebooting the Switch.

Have you made any recent changes to the server?
What is the role of the server on your domain (DC,Member,etc..)

Thanks for the help but after 3 long hours of being on the phone with Microsoft support i figured out the problem. It seems that some files that initiate network features where corrupted. I ended up having to replace these files and then everything worked. Thanks for the help anyways.
