I'm going through a DR exercise of my 2000 Exchange Server. the server is also a domain controller. My DR site has similar hardware but my question is the procedure to recover my System State. I'm only recovering the one server so do i just install win2K then restore the system state from backup. Do i run dcpromo and create the domain again then boot into directory restore mode and restore the system state. Not sure what way to go. Also the exchange server does not hold any FSMO roles. Any help would be appreciated.

A good deal of info is available on this from MS at
Big problem I see here is that you have Exchange on a DC. You should remove Exchange from the DC, DCPROMO the server to a member server and put Exchange back on.

I hope you find this post helpful.

I would agree with markdmac. Exchange shouldn't be on the same box as your DC. It is supported by Microsoft, but not recommended. If it is your only DC in the DR scenario, it could be made to work, but it sounds like you have other DCs if this box doesn't hold any FSMO roles. If you can get away with this server justing being a memeber server, I think that is the best way to go.
