I have a really weird problem. The other day, my PC refused to start. It wouldn't even post. I narrowed it down to a problem with the MB, so I replaced it and everything started up again. But now, sometimes, randomly, when I click on an icon in the system tray such as Outlook or Messenger the system immediately restarts. Really not sure whats going on!

System restarts when system tray is clicked

You are going to want to examine your event logs to see if there is any details about the problem. It is also maybe a good idea to turn off the automatic restart of the machine. Right Click MyComputer then properties, Advanced tab, Setup and Recovery Settings button, bottom section under System failure.

Very often when you install a new motherboard it is necessary to fix the gremlins by performing a repair install of XP.
By repairing windows by running it over itself you will lose all your windows updates but your files and programs will be untouched.

Re-boot using Function key F8 and select "Disable automatic restart on system failure"
See if that gives you a BSOD to work from.
You may also want to set the options in My Computer - properties, to make a dump file for later analysis.
However, if you don't have much re-personalisation to do or many programs to re-install a fresh install of XP may be simpler and quicker in the long run.
You could try installing 'over the top' as well - that will keep everything except updates - which you will have to re-download and install.
