I have a DellOptiflex GX150 (wish I did not), In the past I was able to shut off the sounds of the modem connecting. Now I find myself not being able to do anything to cut that sound. I've explored sounds (muted all), the modem speaker is "off"--nothing cuts the sounds. I need to be able to connect to the internet at night at times and do not wish to disturb everyone.

system or modem speaker shut down

Try this Device manager modem,Properties and modem agian and where it says volume try that, Thats the only place I know to control the modem speaker. If that does not help sorry.
