I've created a new workgroup hoping to use this for a specific group of people and saved it on our public server.
I deleted this and now I'm getting a message whenever I open Access 97. The message indicates that the file system.mdw cannot be found in the location I saved it in.

Is there a way to have Access look for the default system.mdw in my C drive rather than the one I created?

Thanks for the help in advance,

Find the Wrkgadm.exe and run it. You can join another workgroup file or create a new workgroup file.

kas,
In the command line you can specify the mdw file. In the shortcut/properities/Target, you'd just follow the msaccess.exe path with /wrkgrp "c:\somedirectory\somemdw.mdw"

If you created a really secure workgroup then you might have a BIG problem since you have to re-create it using the same PIDs that you used for the original MDW file. Otherwise you can not access your MDB.

This is how you test:
Try to open your MDB on a computer with the standard ACCESS installation.
If it opens without problems, perfect,
If it does not open, then I hope for you that you noted the PID.

BTW: It is highly recommended to create new MDW files ("workgroups") for each application and NOT replace the Standard.MDW.
This means that you need an individual shortcut for each application (with the /wrkgrp switch) but it is MUCH easier to create un-securized applications and open other MDB/MDEs.

Thanks to all!!

I had to recreate the workgroup to start access. I did write down the info thank goodness.

Then I rejoined the system.mdw from my c drive to ensure that I can open access again once I deleted the mdw file I created.

My new challenge is it to make a secure database in our lan server where I save the database file. I understand that creating your own wrkgrp assists in securing the db.

In creating my own workgroup, do I have to name it other than system.mdw? How do I give other users access to the db?

There is so much to learn so If any of you can point me to a site or thread on how to create you own workgroup then that would be greatly appreciated or we can work together almost step by step.

Thanks again in advance!!
