I have a program in FOXPro 2.5 Dos .. As the database is growing the computer is slowing down.. and now they are getting Virtual Memory low messages...

Is there anyway around these other then installing more memory in the machines??

What kind of computer is this running on?

Is this a single user or network application?

How many records are in the database/table?

Are there deleted records on the database/table.

Please advise

What kind of computer is this running on?
P3-1 gig w/ 512 megs of memory

Is this a single user or network application?
Single User

How many records are in the database/table?
Over 5000 and growing

Are there deleted records on the database/table.
no deleted records.. I did not setup that feature for them

I would check for Worms or viruses on your computer. FoxPro even the old ones should be blazing fast with only 5000 Records.

I would concur. I would suspect spyware or some other malware or a virus. 5000 records is nothing. Before I say that though, what is the record size? Unless the record size is huge, 5000 records is chump chnange.

I will check things out at work on Monday and will get back to you on that.. Thanks for the help so far

Are you limiting the memory usage of Foxpro? If not, this may be your problem. Either limit it in your Properties, or insert the following line in your CONFIG.FP file:

MEMLIMIT=60,2048,15360

Make sure you have the following clause in your CONFIG.SYS file:

set foxprocfg=c:\fp\config\config.fp

If you don't limit memory in FPD, it'll try to suck every byte of memory from the machine for its use, effectively slowing it down dramatically. FPD (FOXPROX)is very happy with 16mb of RAM, and standard versions (FOXPRO) needs much less than this.
