System into standby on its own?

Ok, I have a weird one that I cant chase down. My system will randomly go into standby mode on its own - right in the middle of me using it. I'm about to pull my hair out!

Under the power options, I've got it set to never go to standby. I just changed the option to 'ask what to do' when the standby button is pressed, and we'll have to see if this helps.

As far as I can tell, this seems to be related to .Net Framework 1.1 - I removed this a few days ago, and have not had this happen since. However, I had to reinstall .Net fw 1.1 today for some software that needs it, and the problem is back. It may just be coincidental, but I'm not sure.

Anyone ever see this before? I'm stumped.

Maybe you should update the FW to 2.0? (if FW is related to your standby problems)

I've got identical issues on 1 or 2 laptops here. I've setup things like screensaver 15 minutes, standby 30 minutes, and I've never witnessed the problem myself. But apparently they still just "turn off" in the middle of using them". As far as I was aware programs requiring .net FW 1.1 will still want it installed even if you have .net FW 2 on there (or 3 in due course). I didn't think you could run older version FW dependant programs using newer frameworks? I'll try uninstalling it and see what new complaints I get and if the problem goes away I guess :)

I think I have it figured out, and .net wasn't it (you can have both 1.1 and 2.0 installed).

I think it was heat related. Its a laptop in my lap, and the design is such that the intake ports look to be getting blocked by my lap. So now, Im careful how I place it in my lap, and it hasn't shutdown once.

Hopefully Im onto something :)

Really? Crap I took off 1.0/1.1/2.0 on the 2 offending laptops and put 3.0 on and told them to erpotr back to me. SO I guess next week they'll report it didn't help then ;) I'm not sure how it can be heat with them thguoh since they sit on a table the same as any other? hmm ._.
