Hello all,
This just started happening yesterday, and I cannot for the life of me figure out why...

Whenever I open a file, by double clicking on it, my system hangs for a few minutes, then opens the file.
This is for any file that needs a program to open it..

So if I try note.txt,, it takes a few minutes then notepad opens it fine.. The file associations look correct,, because the file does open eventually,,, just takes a long time...

If I open notepad first, then opening the actual txt file is instant.

This happenes for any file, local or on network. Also, while this is happening, processor usage is minimal,, like 2%...

running Windows XP SP2, 2 GB ram,

Thanks everyone..

try disabling any anti-virus as a test to see if it is an issue with on access scanning (don't forget to re enable it)

thanks forumkb, I tried unloading the AV client. no luck,,
still hangs, it acts like it is looking for the associated program,,,
I also noticed if you right-click space on the desktop, and hover over "new" it also hangs for a few minutes before showing the next menu for that..

Well, I figured it out... talk about stupid..lol
definately a DoH! moment..

I had recently moved to a new workstation,, yesterday I finally "unplugged" my old workstation, believing I had gotten everything off of it I needed.

Well, apparently there were a few references to my old machine in the registry for my Symon application. (even though I did a frsh install on new workstation, registry settings must have transfered from old profile).

anyways after searching through the registry for my old machine name, and re-point those references to the "c" drive, now everything opens up like it is supposed to...
