Hi All.

I have just had a new puter and I am trying to get the old files from my old computer onto my new computer. To do this i already have a linksys WRT54G router and 4 port switch so I have plugged my new puter into port 1 and my old puter into port 2. The idea then is to use realVNC to look onto my old puter and by having both machines on a workgroup tranfer files accross. However as soon as i try to use VNC and when puter 2 has accepted my connection and the screen shot is coming up the new puter dies and I have to completly reboot. Can anyone help? thanks, D.

why not get the ip from puter B, then on puter A just goto
Start > Run > \\192.168.0.2\c$ (or whatever ip it is)

easier to copy files that way surely.

To get the ip of puter B, Start > Run > cmd (if XP/2k/nt) or command (if 98). then type ipconfig

ta da!

hope this helps

Thanks for that...have tried but is asking for a guest password....any ideas?

do the following from commandline :
net use b: \\192.168.0.2\c$ /user:WORKGROUPNAME\username passwordforthisuser
and make sure that on both hosts the username exists

greetz,

R.
