system hangs at "applying my personal settings 2

After logging in to my windows 2k machine.
I notice my system hangs at "applying my personal settings".
Any suggestions

Almost always a DNS mis-configuration.

Thanks, for the reply but, what if the user can logon to another machine with her logon successfully.

The DNS settings are not per-user, but common to the settings for the nework adapter on the computer itself.

You get it started if you pull out the network cable ,wait to it starts and plug it back in again . Then try resolving it .

how does one get around this if the unit hangs at that point and won't allow you in.

Do you log on as administrator and make the neccessary changes?

Logon with the users account. When it hangs pull out the network cable .When windows continues to start plug it back in. i Had this on my own machine some time ago . Had to delete the user.dat to get i back to normal again.
