My clients keep disapearing from the system centre console. I know that by replacing the GRC.DAT file and rebooting I can fix the problem. Does anyone know why they disapear in the first place. It has happened to my network (50 computers) three times. So you can see why I don't want to have to keep copying this file
 
By disappearing do you mean that they are gone if they are not active in a few days? This is a "feature" that was provided to remove idle clients so you can sort through them better.

By modifying the GRC.dat file you can change how long it is before the clients "fall off" the listings...

Sometimes, for some reason ALL clients are not showing under the server. What I end up doing is going to the root of the console (Symantec System Center) and then click back and forth to the primary or secondary server every few seconds until they show up. I've never had to modify the GRC.dat file. J.R. Juiliano

When i say disappearing, i mean just disappearing. The computers never get switched off. The longest they are not in use is friday 6pm to monday 7.30 am. They where all there on the 1st May and when we came in the following morning they where gone. The GRC.dat file is still in place.

 
Maybe it's possible to create a login script which does the following:

1. back up the GRC.DAT file to a secondary location (one time)
2. compare the GRC.DAT file to this file every startup
3. if they're different, overwrite with the backup.

Then you can just probably refresh SSC to see if they're still there.

If all else fails, send an email to Symantec Tech Support.
