Hi there, I'm just trying to learn syslog and I tried to log errors concerning lpr and cron. First my /etc/syslog.conf file has additional lines that read:

cron /var/adm/messages
lpr /var/adm/messages

I restarted the syslog daemon. Then I did a:

tail -f /var/adm/messages

and opened up another terminal. Then I edited the crontab file and made errors to it but it was not logged. I also tried to print without a printer attached and it was not logged. I know I'm missing or misinterpreting syslog a lot so can someone help me?

Thanks!

Hi

With the lpr and cron facility give the error level in the next field delimated by a comma.
i think that will solve the problem

Thanks
