I have user that synchronises his laptop when he is in the office. This worked fine until I changed servers from 2000 to 2003 and gave the new server a new name. The laptop user has now come back and cannot synchronise as it is looking for the old server. I cannot find a way to change the path. How can I get the laptop to synchronicse with the same folders on the new server without losing the changes

Any ideas much appreciated

If the old server is no longer running then rename the new one to match the old name.

I good idea, but I have already changed other users and desktops to point to the new server

Sorry but I don't have much exp with synching files so I couldn't tell you an easy way to change the path. Would it be possible to just create a new session and point it to the new server? Or is that the, "extra work" you are trying to avoid?

Seems like there would be a registry key you could change to correct that. bcastner? linney? garebo? I know one of you guys has the answer to this if not all of ya!

Have you tried to empty the offline file cache (deleting the offline version of the files) and then re-synchronize?

After empting the offline file cache, the folder or files that you have made offline will need to made available offline again. Then re-synchronize. This should then create a new copy of these files, with its correct location for the new server.

Use CSCCMD and the /MOVESHARE subcommand:

/MOVESHARE:\\Server1\Share \\Server2\Share – Use this switch to move files and directories from one share to another share in the cache. This option is useful if the target of offline files has moved and if the local cache now must point to a new location.

For example, use the following command:
CSCCMD /MOVESHARE: \\MyServer\MyShare \\MyServer1\MyShare1

Note MyServer1 is the new server name, and MyShare1 is the name of the new shared resource.

csccmd has worked for me with this issuwe in the past

cheers!
