Sync using Infrared port on XP 1

Hi - I'm using SK98 on XP and currently sync to a Palm III over a serial cable on COM1. Sync is done using the package that comes with SK (seems to be called both Truesync and Hotsync depending on where you look).

I'd like to sync using the infrared port. On earlier OSs this would appear to be done by associating one of the other COM ports to the infrared port and then on hotsync specifying the appropriate port (COM1 to COM4 are selectable). However, I'm not sure you can do this on XP (well, maybe you can, but I don't know how...)

Does anyone know how you get Hotsync to use the infrared port on XP?

Thanks

Hi Formyl,

there is something called ircomm2k, some freeware allowing you to give a com port to the infrared port. Works fine for me with an Motorola Accompli and Truesync / Sidekick98. You can read more about it and download at

Kind regards and good luck.

Thanks larsbeger - I've actually already found and downloaded this but haven't yet been brave enough to try it! Nice to know it might work for me though.

My main reservation was that (from the screenshots) it looked like it might only set up COM5 as the virtual IR port whereas SK98 (well, my variant anyway) only allows selection of COM1 to COM4.

However, if you're using it successfully, does it mean you can specify that Ircomm2 uses a different port?

Thanks again

Hi again,

yes, you can set ircomm2k up to use port 1 to 6, it pops "sogar" up and says that there are many programs that only can use port 1 to 4, so it recommends to use one of these.

I use it with a Motorola Accompli and it works without any problems, really fine.

Hoping that I could help...
