Symposium Announcement interface

I know that my Symposium interfaces with our out of date Mer Mail and also with a RAN. Here is my problem:

I am being told that the Interalia's for this Symposium that I am working with are disconnected. I have some scripts referrencing GIVE RAN XX. If there is not another IVR somewhere at that location is it safe to assume that the script is just bypassing these steps?

Also, some of our scripts have the following statement which is programmed in the script variable:

GIVE CONTROLLED BROADCAST ANNOUNCEMENT PLAY PROMPT VOICE SEGMENT Unused_Number_gv

Where will this announcement come from?

Ran would be a RAN trunk so if the Interalias are disconnected the caller will not get the RAN announcement.

Give controlled broadcast will come from Meridian Mail.

...But for this to work, your ACCESS link must be functioning properly. From your post, I take it that you will need more instructions on how to verify that and how to add new prompts.

GIVE CONTROLLED BROADCAST is another piece of the ACCESS configuration. Is it working?

A final option is to use GIVE IVR. If you don't have the appropriate hardware connections, this can be used. They, too, require configuration. But since you have ACCESS (voice segments, give controlled broadcast) configured, I would not use it if I did not have to.

Finally, no, it is not safe to assume the script is simply bypassing these steps. One result is that calls can default, skipping the rest of your script and going to the DFDN (usually) on your CDN instead. It's not a hard-and-fast rule, you will get unpredictable results.

I guess you are right I would need to know where my Access Link is. I can tell you that it is working because I can get the announcement/prompts that I am suppose to get when testing the script that has these steps in them.

The RAN I am not to worried about because these are old scripts that I think have been out of use for a long time before I got here.

In configuration - under phone sets and voice ports, you will find if any access links are acquired.

Thanks everyone. I guess I need a little more assistance. I can see where the access link is but I cannot make the relation to how a script will reference the "name" of an announcement. First_RAN_Broadcast_gv....This is associated with a script variable. But if I do not have a RAN is this announcement going to Mer Mail and if it is how does Mer Mail associate a number with it.

The script references a script variable of type Voice_Segment. The value of the Voice Segment is the file name under which the segments are stored and the segment number (file1:1).

With Mermail you use an application called Voice Prompt Editor to create and record the actual voice segments. You are getting into dangerous territory here. If you make a mistake and accidentally delete a voice segment (or file) you will mess up all your voice segment assignments.

I recommend you pay for a professional services person to make these updates and look over his/her shoulder. The step by step process (while not rocket science) is a bit much to document here. Look for the Switch and Voice Services and Guide on the the Nortel documentation CD for reference.
