We know there is a blue database on our server and we know we cannot access it; however, what is the database that we can gain access to to extract data.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. We have read through the Nortel documentation and cannot get it to work. All the login and passwords for the system we have tried.

You can get access via the Server Utility (on the CCMS server itself). This is the same as the "classic client" access on Symposium 5.0 and earlier if you were not using the Web Client.

As before, it is only read-only but is still to the blue database.

Thanks sandyml, We are using the Server Utility (Sybase server utility), but we cannot get past the user name and password (we have tried all the ones we have) nor can we determine what the database name is. We don't have experience with prior Symposium versions. We jumped in with CCM 6.0.

We are finally able to conect into the server through ODBC; however, what database do we use to pull from? blue or CBC or is there another one we should be using? Are there risks we should be aware of as well?

You should read up on the Historical Reporting and Data Dictionary. Pay special attention to the Advanced reporting, Expert Reports section.

Follow the (scant) documentation exactly. If you are not comfortable with Database access, then it is best not to use this access.

The database access you have through ODBC is only VIEWS. This means you do not have access to the tables themselves. It also means you cannot write to the database so the damage you can do is limited to excessive reading.

Thanks Padraig,

That is what we gathered from the documentation. We don't want to write to the Symposium database, we just want to pull the data so we can import into our own reporting tools. With that said, we are still trying to figure out which database we are to use to pull the read only views. Summarized Historical Statistics, Event Statistics, Configuration data, and Access and Partition Management data (pg. 25 Historical Reporting and Data Dictionary document). The documentation is not clear in the specific database name(s) to use for such a process.

I have benn using this advanced reporting for many years with several companies - it is really great reporting tool.
Just with my current company I have a problem.
IT secutity staff is saying no! it is security hole, CCMS server can be attacked by this way.
I am pretty sure this is just an usual security people paranoia.
What is your opinion ?

I think you just need more experience working with the CCMA database. Keep reading on to page 41 (and beyond), Defining a Connection to the Contact Center Manager Server. Follow the documentation closely, it will connect you to the blue database. Once connected to the blue database, you can check out the database views.

I am assuming you are not connecting to the Mutlimedia server, skip over that section of the documentation.

Thanks Milesprower,

So far so good. We were making it more difficult than it really is. We are connected into the blue database views.

Your help has been greatly appreciated. If anything else comes up I will post.
