Hi,

I'm using Backup Exec version 10d and have been using it on some our other servers for a while now with no problems.
However I've recently installed it on an existing server and have been backing up for three or four weeks with no problem (I just do a weekly backup for this server).
This Monday however the scheduled backup just said 'queued' which implied something else was taking priority (there wasn't any other jobs and I've never seen this message before on my other servers running Backup Exec).
After a while cancelled the job and tried running a drive inventory which just didn't run. We scheduled a new back up to test it last night and the same thing happened - the job status just said queued.
Both myself and the most experienced member of our IT Support team think that it looks like the software is trying to run something else first...but there isn't anything! I have now stopped and restarted all the services relating to Backup Exec but nothing has changed. Oh yes - and the tape drive is visible when I check through the Device Manager. This server is running Windows Server 2003...

Any ideas please? I can't seem to get the job out of the queue without cancelling it completely.

Thank in advance

Lee-anne

Have you tried restarting the server Veritas is on? That worked for me....

Thanks - rebooted the server after hours last night (can't do it during the day as runs Double Take - it's our backup Notes server!) - and didn't help but think we found what was causing the problem.

Interestingly enough it looks like it was Retrospect - software we use to back up the few Macs that are used by Design dept - Retrospect was blocking the tape drive causing the job to be instantly queued and plus Exec seemed to be looking to the external hard drive on that server - which is where the Retrospect backups go to! All a mess - problem is it will happen every week unless we move Retrospect to a different server which doesn't back up to a tape drive so it won't muck it up...I'm off to find one!

Thanks for your help
