I have a client running Windows XP Home Edition + SP2 plus Symantec Antivirus v10 (Client Installation). The problem is that the Auto-protect option is disable and will not be enabled even if you try to enable it.

I uninstalled and reinstalled but still encounters the same problem. Can anyone help me with this problem?

Client installation", huh? Are you installing it as a managed client (gets all settings from parent server) or as an unmanaged client (stand-alone, all settings user defineable)?

As LawnBoy says....it sounds like your client is getting it's settings from a server - it needs to be an unmanaged client.

It's installed as an unmanaged client. Anyway, we were struggling to uninstall it and not even Norton Removal Tool was able to do the job. We had had to reboot in Safe mode and deleted the all Symantec folders. Then rebooted in a normal manner and had to search and delete all keys referencing Symantec. Norton Removal Tool had to come last to clean up whatever remnants of Symantec left in the system.

Thanks Guys all the same.
