NO
I have a two-node veritas cluster (solaris 9) hosting a failover Sybase database. Using my legally purchased license for sybase option I can back up the primary node, but after failing over for maintenance I discovered to my horror that even with the -c <client> option, Legato considers the secondary node as unlicensed.

I have to say that at $7500 I would have expected more functionality from an "online database backup agent" than what Legato's Sybase module delivers, but having to pay the same fee again just so I can back up my database when the cluster fails over to the secondary node is just highway robbery.

Please say it ain't so .. :(

Licensing for database modules has changed rcently. You now need a license for each IP address the database is using.

If he sets the client up so it uses the virtual IP of the cluster would that not work?

Would he still need the additional license? My first thoughts from Legato's pov is yes but in reality I wouldn't want to have to purchase 2 licenses.

Maybe he just need to reconfigure the client to solve his problem.

NW module licenses are based on physical hosts but logical hosts.
Two sysbase module licences are enough for two-nodes' cluster.

If you just have one module license?

This is is the case ... as long as you also obey the 'new ip adress rule".

Hi 605,

Could you show us the document about "new ip adddress rule"?

Thanks,

I was just looking for myself and could not find it at all. Sorry, all i can do is forwarding some info but i can not prove it to you rigkt now.

I just update my bakcup system using new auth codes.

Obviously it is still based on physical hosts but IP address.
I have a lot of logical hosts in my cluster configure.

Well, i guess this also depends on the version you run. Is yours on 7.2 already?

Hmm, interesting. Sorry, but right now i don't have further explainations.

After moniting NW by nsrlic -v for a while, I find it't hard to say how NW server assign module licenses.

For example, I have another NW 7.2 backup system with 9 SAP module.

connected cluents: 6 physical hosts, 5 logical hosts (on two
nodes cluster).

It usually works fine, but sometimes license (not too much) ran out.

If checking Used by nsrlic -v, the number changed 7, 8, 9 ...
