My customer's ICP keeps crashing every couple weeks. It started a little while after I expanded the system by adding a new bay. When it crashes all the extensions just give a clicking sound when going off hook. I reset the system and it comes back up, then a couple weeks later it will go down again. Mitel suggested I swap the bccIII from bay 3 with bay 5 (the new bay), when I pulled the cards out, I noticed that the new bccIII was missing the Mitel DSP Module (Single) #9180-510-006-NA
would this missing card cause the system to crash?

I had a problem with adding bays too and having the system freeze up and reboot. The reboot interval was much quicker though, more like within an hour. My problem was self inflicted. The bays were connected via CIM, but the default is FIM. I had forgot to change them. Might not be the same issue, but worth a look.

If you did not take enough time to get it right the first time...

What makes you think that you have time to fix it?

BCCIII cards are computers unto themselves.
They get their upgrade info from the controller (200ICP) upon install/reboot.
I am concerned that the software level on the 200ICP is older than the firmware on the new BCCIII card.
What is the software version on the 200?
200 systems reboot based on a number of faults. By default, a system will reboot on Sunday @ 2:00am if it has encountered a fault.
It will reboot immediately if the system has detected 51 faults.
These things are programmable partly.
What do the logs show?

You can't believe anything you read... unless of course it's this sentence.

It doesn't reboot on its own. It freezes and doesn't produce any dial tone. There is no audio transmission at all. Pick up a phone and only get a clicking noise. The only way I can get it to work is to reboot the system. The logs do not show anything, no alarms , no errors. I had Mitel in looking at it, and they couldn't see any issue. But we did not remove the bccIII, and did not see that the baby board was not there. I only discovered the missing card last night.

The software is 4.0.1.20

THE DSP on the BCCIII is optional.

It is only required for High traffic an certain features such as Caller ID on ONS sets. In either case it would not be required on all BCCIII cards as the resources are shared.

Occam's Razor - All things being equal, the simplest solution is the right one.

Check the basics maybe, Is there a good UPS on all the devices? Sufficient power etc. All the cables seated well? Is it getting static zaps? What do the bay cards look like? EG: are there leds on the cards on, off or mixed, is the alarm LED on a card etc. Does the controller have a hard disk? If so how old is it etc.

Hope that helps!

Jim

What was the result when you swapped the BCC's? Did the problem continue?

Can you describe what cards (DNIC, ONS) are in this per. node?

When this does happen, as to just rebooting everything, what happens when you just power cycle the per. node itself?

If have DNIC sets in this node, during the issue, are you able to press any of softkeys or programmable keys? Do the features correspond when you press them?

If you have DNIC phones, and this occurs, can you power cycle a phone and see if it ever syncs completely, or does the phone just sit and wait for sync?

Is this cabinet Fibre or CIM? Depending on what it is, do you have any additional ports (fibre or CIM) in the main node you can move it too?

The system has not crashed since I installed the DSP on the BCCIII. So it looks like that has resolved my problem. Thanks to everyone who offered insight.
