Hi,

Lately, a user has been getting a "direct-in" phone call that he/she picks up and then there is only dial tone.
It may ring 1 or 2 times and then stops.
The 2 affected phones are SS 4DN's.

It happens yesterday three times from 4-4:30 - here is what I captured in the SMDR log:

08/16 04:39P 00:00:06 X060 *** 5641 5641
08/16 04:34P 00:00:06 X055 *** 5641 5641
08/16 04:29P 00:00:06 X059 *** 5641 5641
08/16 04:23P 00:00:06 X054 *** 5641 5641

What does the X054-X60 mean?
The call lasted for 6 seconds...

We have had our Local telecom carrier trace these before.
Mitel says it is coming from the outside and TDS(local carrier) says it is coming from the inside?

Any ideas?
Thanks!

SP

The real clue to this is the timing between each call. you will note there is almost exactly a 5 min difference between each call. This suggests an automated system dialing the call. The X054 etc is the inbound trunk number X indicates that it is a Tie trunk or PRI.

Check your system programming to determine where trunk number 54 connects to.

If I were a guessing man, i would guess this was a predictive dialer calling and when it connects it doesnt have anyone available at its end to talk and it disconnects the call.

Hi KwbMitel,

Yep, I think it is a FAX/modem from outside DID line or our local carrier's responsibilty.
Looks like I'll have to change the user phone number if it persists...sigh.

Thanks,

SP

Possibly too it's a fax machine or modem that mis-interprets the Mitel's default european ring cadence as BUSY tone. Hence it calls and immediately hangs up, thinking "Ring..Ring" = Busy

USRobotics/3Com low end Sportster model modems are notoriously guilty of this.
