I have two HP 11 machines. On one I can run swlist as a non privilaged user, on the other I can not. I have review the ACL's and they are the same. (Both have not been modified since initial install) Any ideas as to why would be appreciated.

check if you have sudo installed on the machine that works. sudo can be used to allow ordinary users run some superuser commands

Neither machine has SUDO installed. And on the machine that I can issue swlist, I can also view the ACL's via swacl with no problem. I already checked to see if the ID I am using has any special permissions, and it does not. %-(

Someone has set the ACL such that only root can use the "swlist" command.

As root, execute the following commands:

swacl -l root -M any_other:-r--t
swacl -l host -M any_other:-r--t
swacl -l depot -M any_other:-r--t

This should get you going.

NOTE: Not allowing others to see what is loaded on your computer can make it harder for "undesirables" to find out what patches etc are loaded on your system.
