I am currently using Netware 3.12 running foxpro 2.6 I have about 130 users.
The existing compaq server machine is getting old, is giving me a lot of problems with connections and also the data are kind of messed up.
I am not an expert in netware, but I need to find out what can be done first and then find the right person to do it.
Does netware 4.x function almost the same as netware 3.12, can I use my existing netware 3.12 licenses.
And if 3.12 license does not work with 4.x, then I Will stick with 3.12, so any of you seen any problems using newer hardware with 3.12? Would it work well with Pentium III? any hardware that I should stay away from?

Here are the problems you will run into...

NetWare v3.12 and NetWare v4.x are very different. Even though the NetWare v4.x can "emulate" a NetWare v3.x environment, you will have dificulty with administration of the Users and resources.

Also, no, you WILL NOT be able to use you NetWare v3.12 license in a NetWare v4.x environment.

If you attempt to load NetWare v3.12 on new hardware, you may run into issues of driver compatibility. Since NetWare v3.12 has been discontinued and is no longer supported, you may have trouble finding a driver that will work with the Hardware and the NetWare v3.12 OS.

Good Luck!

Echo Salserocito about NW4. Also, NW4 is no longer supported after the end of this year so you would be looking at upgrading to NW 5 or 6.
I have run Netware 3 on PII hardware and Slot 1 P3. My advice is to keep the hardware as simple as possible and to stick to OEM brands such as HP, Compaq etc. Assuming you have SCSI disks, a PCI Adaptec 2940 works OK as does AMI RAID cards. You will probably have problems with the new(ish) IDE RAID interfaces though. Stick to Intel or 3 Com LAN cards (even if OEM). Good Luck
