Hi I have a Western Digital 400 Protege 40 Giga Byte hard drive. One of the chips on the controller card burned out leaving the hard drive inaccessible. I ordered another hard drive exactly like the one I have and switched the controller card with the one that burned out. It only clicks when I turn it on. Is it possible to do what I am trying to do?

Could I get another chip and use a pin adapter to change the chip?

I really need the information on that hard drive and my 17 CD Ghost image is corrupt on disk 5! Arghh. Help!

Thanks in advance,

Daniel

It is not only the controller card but engineering level too. And you could have lost some positioning stuff inside.
