Hi - I am a member of two networks and would like to avoid reconfiguring every time I move the laptop from one site to the other. The Alternate Configuration tab wont work because both networks have dhcp enabled but on one of them I use a static ip and a gateway - so xp finds the dhcp server and wont use the alternate config info. Is there another way to set up two configurations and switch easily?

Thanks for any help!

Netswitcher is the way to go. You would have to have static on both configs to use the alternate config properly in this situation.

Well I bought NS yesterday - looks like a great product but I have not been able to get it to save changes because it thinks I dont have the right privileges on my xp laptop - I have logged on as a local domain administrator and as an office domain admin both with network config privileges but no go - the NS author says I have to be a local admin which I take to mean an admin in the local computer domain - but that has not worked. So I am still changing things by hand. sigh.

If you have Win2k/WinXP on your PC, you can try netsh.exe (interface context). You can read about this tool on the online help. Hope this help you...

Try this: Do not log in as a user with administator priveledges, log in as "administrator". To get the manual login prompt (not the user selector screen) imply press ctrl-alt-del twice at the login screen.
