Ok. I knew this day would come, when I'd have to admit just how dumb I really am.

I've read through the postings and found that, yes, it's possible to move a 3904 phone extension from one TN to another. (Person is moving to another office; wants to keep old extension. Phone is 3904 in both locations, and not ACD - just a regular 3904.)

But I also see corruption dangers. So, my 2-part question:

1) How do I identify exactly what Nortel switch I have? (Option 11? 81? What? Who? argh...)

2) Once identified, is there a safe method [or mostly safe] to move/exchange these extensions?

Thanks for everyone's help, as always.

Option 11 will be hanging on the wall. Any other option switch will be on the floor because they are big.

if that is not enough info, ld 22 prt cequ and post that here. from that we can give you the switch type.. a few pointers on the basic admin command.. 1st point never mov chg etc an acd set...after that just remember to disu any set before a command except prt..

ld 20
prt
dnb
0
1234
return a few times

4 0 0 0 key 0 2616 marp... that is the information you need from the print out, you'll get much more..

then still in 20
prt
dnb
0
4 0 0 0, in a larger switch
4 0 in a opt 11

that will show all features and keys on one set.. make changes on that set in load 11.. before you do go to ld 32 and disu 4 0 0 0.. that turns the phone off. then in 11, chg
2616
4 0 0 0
echg yes

ncos 3
hunt 3000
cls hta

return and that set is now ncos 3, and hunts (busy) to 3000. the set enabled itself. other commands you can use in ld 11 at the req prompt are mov cpy.. those commands as well as cls marks are in ld 11 analog phones are programed in ld 10... every ld below 20 are printed in 20, 21 and 22. if you stay away from acd phones you can cause very little problems in those loads.. i do use cpy and mov commands, i have never met a bell south tech that had a problem with those commands.. some here don't use them.. that's up to you.. i have customers that don't use echg.. that's a little to careful for me.. rtfb,,, the the book. build a set connect it and do some stare and compare, two other commands you may want

luvu

returns will give you a list of unused digital tn's. type 500 is the command for analog ports

prt
ludn

returns will give you a list of unused dn's

hope this helps, this site will give you a decent start, nothing helps as much as hands on
